National Road Transport Forum 2008
On the 28/07/2008 all modes of road transport will cease to offer any freight services until the Government meets the demands from the forums held around the country.
This shutdown is designed to have 'Minimum impact on the community with Maximum effect on Government'.
Hi all i am a meat carter and drive a truck just want to comment on a couple of comments i read.
1. To the wanker who hopes diesel will go to $3.00 a litre. How much do you pay for lets say a piece of rump steak what $6-$7 well looky here if diesel was to jump to $3.00 a litre you would then pay $12 to $14 for that same piece of crap meat that gets draged across the floor left out of the butchers cool room for half the day and then once you see it on display in the show case a week after i deliver it and it sits in your fridge for 2 to 3 days before you cook it how good do you recon it would taste. Please reply would love to hear from you.
2.To the subject on the strike.
I must admit i do not pay for the fuel that goes into my truck as it is a company truck but at the same time after talking to many truckies who do pay for their fuel can totaly see where they are comming from as there is so many trucks out there and thier all fighting for the same job.
3. Funny that about Global warming there is aprox 100 cars to a truck on the road.
Yes trucks do use more fuel than a car BUT when you look into the facts on SO CALLED global warming it is actually cooler now than it has been for the past 70 years.
Or maybe your just so hot headed you can't feel the change. YA TOSSER.
4.Yeh always wondered why when i pulled up to a truck stop why the little cars where parked so far away from my truck.
But now i have worked it out.
It's because people like you who comes across as the sort of human who would lay in front of a truck in protest and act as a speed hump.
Come lay in front of my truck. I DARE YOU.
take another tablet
I am wondering why such strikes happen? I think they are nothing other than a shit.
these tpt companys that continually put their trucks out on the road when they are not in mechanically A1 condition need their necks wrung and i hope u are exposed as the ignorant selfish money hungry pricks that you are.
is the strike still on, never seemed to affect the Hume at all. Seemed to be a bit of waste of time and may have got the public offside.I hope diesel goes to $3.00 a liter, might force a bit of the riff Raff out
Did you think before you wrote that.$3.00 a litre would stuff this country, and tell me, anyone would think the public owns transport. How about we be fair and force out all the riff raff out of every job in australia.Truck drivers may be dumb, but anyone who comments on something they have never done really are scraping the bottom. Those who have voiced uneducated opinions on this site are frequent and should be ashamed. Have a go first because everyone is just giving the industry a spray yet they themselves don't have any constructive solutions to help.Keep mouthing off in your glass houses. You are dumber then any truck driver.
Truthfully.What OP did you get?

Strike was never Australia wide....
Strike was only parts of Queensland.....
Strike has not affected the Government...
What demands? I see NO demands........
******* STRIKE IS OFF ********
Lots of professions have tight and STRICT government regulations and there are good reasons for those regulations being put in place! And guess what, in part they are for YOU THE DRIVERS own damn safety!! But instead of even trying to see COMMON SENSE in these regulations you cry hard done by!!! And guess what....you were all crying hard done by before this too!! Its always you people saying POOR ME POOR ME, well heres a revelation: your not the hardest done by profession or the hardest workers and you deserve NO MORE RESPECT than anyone else. Heres hoping that this failure of a strike/protest that you tried to stage brought you all down a few notches. Nobody will give in to your demands and if you hate your job, leave it and hopefully you will be replaced by someone who respects the law and has some decency about them.

Did you read the stats found down below. It is FACT wether you like it or not, that cars have more accidents per km than trucks. So why don't all you so called experts clean up your own backyard before you voice an opinion that has no substance. Who gives anyone the right to JUDGE when you yourself are not perfect. In 99% of cases with pilots who would be the better pilot.the one who flys 12-14 hours a day,day in and day out or the one who flies 2 hours a day.Same with trucks. Who in their right mind comments on something they have never done anyhow?
So taking into account that car drivers with their low levels of experience in relation to truck drivers, and their proven much higher accident per km rate, I think its only fair that you share the exact same regs as trucks.Log books cover both work and driving and any little mistake you make in your work day gets deducted out of your pay no matter how big or small. Also do you seriously think that we don't want to go home to our families at the end of the day to alive and not dead. Also in your vast experience can you tell me for sure and certain that the new laws WILL reduce ACCIDENTS. DO you know the differences between the old ones and the new ones.DO you also believe the media.
Last of all cars are small and agile and very easy to manouver in comparison to trucks and yet the ACCIDENT PER KM RATE IS HIGHER FOR CARS. Please explain why this is so before you make your expert stance.Besides, hasn't road transport done you very well over the last fifty or so years.
Anyway, I can vision some of the come backs already. All very original and all from non truck drivers.
All those who are experts, we have trucks in the yard ready for you to show the world exactly how its done.I used to say, bloody whinging truck drivers, and I put my money where my mouth is experinced it first hand. Now I know the industry, the ups and the downs and how it works.I would not dare comment on this site if I had never tried the game first.
You have been no help to the ones who try their hardest. Thanks for your support.
Chris
How many people would be killed if a car hit a train?, we have already got the answer when a truck does !!!
Actually chris I do know the old laws and the new and understand the differences. We own 3 trucks. So thanks for automatically presuming that I must be uninformed but unfortunately you are incorrect. I am sick of the shit that this strike/protest has caused, makes hard working drivers look like idiots. Think about your fellow truck drivers before you take stupid action. Some of us understand the reasoning behind the new rules and regs.
Ha Ha Ha your stupid strike was a failure how foolish you all look now, HA HA HA
I agree with you,did not achieve anything at all other than prove that all of us truck drivers are fools and easily lead
i have been a truck driver for 30 years now I work for a company and I am happy where i am. maybe some of you can try working for a company maybe you will get much better pay, just an idea, anyway, i am off.
Yes what a bunch of clowns, lets put it all on the rail and get rid of these dangerous cowboys
yeah what a great idea
then maybe all shops, servos, mechanics, everything should be relocated to railways so then you can drive your CAR to the railway for ALL your items
get a life
there are cowboys out there as in all professions
i should know i just quit being a heavy vehicle driving instructor because i was fed up with teaching people who drive CARS the (road rules) as they dont know them
then having to teach the truck components to people who quite frankly shouldnt be on the road
i have my views on what has to be changed in this area but it never will
i am now an owner driver
and in response to someone else here there was a survey done some years ago that proved that truckies were more up to date and attuned to social happenings along with what was going on in the world as they listened to the radio most of the day
Well said ,all freight should be on the railways to reduce accidents and global warming, small Asians on bikes could deliver from the railway station to peoples homes
put it all on rail eh???
u do realize that would have to be the most moronic (or one of the most) opinions on here dont u?
perhaps I should drive a truck and join all you brain surgeons on channel 40 and spend my whole day saying "copy in the kenworth" and become a complete moron
Have you ever wondered why they have a separate section at roadhouses for truck drivers,it is so the general public don,t have to put up with fat tattooed drug affected morons in blue singlets who have not showered for 2 weeks and smell like they have crawled out of a sewer.
reply to Have you ever wondered why post.
These road houses were set up mainly for truckies. my family owned a road house , truckies had a seperate area and paid less for there meals. they provided us with more income that the general public. if you dont like them take plenty of food and fuel with you and dont stop at the road houses. Stay in your little cave in the city. By sum bad luck at 2 am on a really dark rainy night your car breaks down 100 / 200 km's from the nearest town, you have no phone coverage. you may see a car every couple of hours, dont wave down a truckie...you just sit in your car and freez to death.
what we dont need in this world is narrow minded people like your-self.
put it all on rail eh???
u do realize that would have to be the most moronic (or one of the most) opinions on here dont u?
The brown rat is considered to be a pest throughout most of its range. Still it rarely lives in occupied houses or buildings but, rather, makes its home in areas uninhabited by people. The brown rat inhabits all parts of the world populated by humans and breeds rapidly in colonies located in sewers and garbage dumps. It arrived in the Americas by way of ships belonging to early European explorers and settlers.
Are you for real?..How dare you insinuate that truckies should tolerate such diabolic comments from a poor misguided creature like you. Do you live in a house or under a rock? How do you think all the building materials get to the building sites?...and I suppose you are one of those intelligent people from the Lavatory Latte Set in the city that think the meat just happened to appear in the Supermarket fridges. Grow a brain and don't put all truck drivers in the catergory of dangerous cowboys.
ha ha ha if there is a strike on then tell me why I keep seeing trucks, trucks and trucks on the road.
Oh and those in Western Australia called strike of before it started, ha ha ha, weak bastards
yeah way too funny, the so called strike did nothing, it was amusing for the stupid dumb arse drivers who constantly break the laws.
get a real job losers
This truck strike is about drivers working for poor quality pay, it has nothing to do with the rising fuel cost.
Truck Drivers need a pay increase.
OH !!!
But I was too believe those on strike are (Owner Drivers), one would think that all owner-drivers would set there own fees and pay.
All you got to do is let those know that you work for a set amount of money, if you all agree on the fee then everyone will get the same, you do not transport goods unless the fee is met.
So all owner-drivers need to work out a fee and set it up, as I do not see much talk about it on this forum.
So what fee would everyone be happy with?
Breaka breaka
I have just come across this forum, and to tell you the truth. I find a lot of comments from truck drivers to be rude and of poor quality.
The truck drivers are saying it's not about the fuel, then why did thhe media say "When Diesel hit $2 then truck drivers are going on strike". I am aware that it is not $2 and that you are on strike.
You have a forum here, then tell people why your on strike instead of letting them believe it is about fuel.
I can understand that by what I have read that you are all unpaid, and it is your right to seek better pay and better conditions, but tell people what you want instead of the media saying it is about the fuel.
Calling people names for not knowing the real reason is some what rude as most of Australia thinks it is about fuel. Just write in this forum and let people know.
Good luck on getting your pay rise and all the best.
The runaway truck ramp is meant to prevent accidents ...obviously that design doesnt work.
Very interesting tho that the videos of bad truck drivers had to be drivers in the states and not Australia.. really defeats the purpose dont you think
Introduction to the Diesel Vehicle Emissions NEPM
Environmental Impacts of Diesel Vehicle Emissions
Emissions constitute the most significant source of urban air pollution in Australia. Continued annual growth in vehicle kilometres travelled and fuel consumption by the diesel fleet highlights this as an area of growing concern from the air quality perspective.
The emissions let out by trucks will know doubt be subject to further fees under the Kyoto Protocol which Kevin Rudd signed.
This will affect all truck drivers.
Australia is already subject euro4 emissions standards for new regos. This in some cities of the world means that the exhaust is cleaner than the intake.Weshould be paid for cleaning the air not charged for it.
Is it possible to get a licence to be able to drive a bus as a motorhome? I thank you in advanced for your information.
Tina
if the bus been converted to a motor home then all u need to do is get a hr licence
We have been charged extra for getting goods in the supermarket, at harvey norman all because the fuel prices so do not tell me you do not get anymore.
We are told prices have gone up because fuel has gone up, so the fact is that you do get more money for fuel, so stop complaining.
We all want better pay.
http://www.news.com.au/business/money/story/0,25479,24101194-5017313,00....
prices are going up because of fuel prices - who gets the money - TRUCKIES
So stop complaining
Your an UNEDUCATED DICK.
LMAO- your a pathetic slimy little maggot.
LOSER!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply all u like to me.
Same as every other moron on here-it aint just about fuel prices, pay rises or some truckie goin to a brothel(which by the way-IM SURE THERES A DOCTOR,DENTIST,TEACHER ECT SOMEWHERE THAT HAS ALSO BEEN TO A BROTHEL)..WOW BIG DEAL.
Do ya homework Buddy before u come on here and embarress yourself.
I dont know what drugs ur on i would like some as i dont know what happen to all the money u say we truckies got for cartin ur crap to the shops 4 u to pick up wake up an smell the daisies its the stores making an extra profit an then putting on us if u dont run a truck then u know nothing!!!
If you are unfortunate to work for a larger company - that would be them. the Sub Contractors to the likes of Tolls and Linfox etc are not getting the fuel money passed on to them - when they sign the contract it would be for a agreed amount - since then - prices have skyrocketed which means they are locked into the contract - the larger companies ie tolls and linfox can charge more - but thye pocket that money and the unions are doing nothing about it - hence the need for Mick Pattel and the likes to try and slap a bit of sense into the govt and to wankers like you
May I make a suggestion....
If a person owns a truck and drives for a business then wouldn't it be fair for the business to pay for fuel and general repairs on the truck.
Then pay the drivers atleast $2.00 per KLM.
Including a food allowances.
All Fuel paid by business.
All repairs paid by business.
Allow drivers to work for 2 weeks and get 1 week off.
Most truck drivers break there backs to make ends meet.
Not Bad..... Wish it was this good, I get a dollar per k for delivering Maccas.
Maybe interesting to hear what people want out of this strike, please do tell all. What do you want.
tony
i want our own lanes for our trucks, fee government servicing, atleast $5000 for a 80 hour week.
5000 a week, you have to be kidding us. get over it and get a real job
So you want more doctors, nurses and surgeons....for driving?????? Yea thats justified.
Sorry will clarify - So you want MORE MONEY than doctors, nurses and surgeons......for driving????
Yea thats justified.
It's not much good having doctors&nurses if you haven't got trucks to bring hospital supplies or for that matter materials to build the hospital in the first place.
Did anyone read the comment that trucks have been around for millions of years, what the fuck.
We do not need trucks, trucks feed big business, the same businesses who buy goods from china for bullshit prices, or from australian farmers for so little.
It is big business who needs truck, get the fuck of the road, we pay for your repairs and your greenhouse gases on a daily basis.
We don't need trucks nor are you a worthy lot, your demands are way out of line.

Strikes should be 'Minimum impact on the community with Maximum effect on Government' but very often reverse reaction is seen. Reality is not that good and positive.
