Tropical North Queensland

Welcome to tropical north Queensland, Australia. An area many would describe as a 'Paradise on Earth'.
But while the area is populated not by angels but by ordinary people like you and I and remains a part of, and subject to, the State of Queensland and the Commonwealth of Australia, it is also subject to the tides of politics and opinion from that greater whole.
The Tropical North Queensland Group differentiates itself from other local news and discussion channels by making it easy for members and visitors to focus on the specific topics, threads, authors and 'tags' that fit their interests bests.
You need not wade through tonnes of 'off topic' posts either in your inbox or on some web page. Instead you may simply subscribe to that interesting topic, thread, author or tag to receive a timely e-mail with just those new posts and comments that fit your interests. The e-mail includes a URL link to click straight through to that post.
Note that for our readers comfort, all posts and comments in this group are subject to moderation until such time that your membership has been verified. Even then you will find that 'flaming', personal attacks, libellous statements and just plain bad language will be un-published before you can say 'censorship'...
So, if you have a vital interest in the well being of Tropical North Queensland, Clemens the Barefoot Warrior, is a long time local (1979) with a proven track record in IT management and is known for his interest in community and a more just and humane world for all sentient beings. Clemens has been running altnews.com.au web sites, list and e-mail servers continuously since 1996.
I hope to see you here soon.

The Age of Stupid - Cairns special screening

Brought to you by Australian Conservation Foundation, The Wilderness Society and Cairns and Far North Environment Centre.
An upcoming event not to be missed…..

Support The Aeroglen To CBD Cycleway
This cycleway according to the Cairns Post has come under threat from certain councillors and residents. It seems that certain businesses are also up in arms about car parking. Some concern is felt about muddies playground.
After much consideration by council staff and councillors, this plan has evolved as being the best option with least disruptions, with least road crossings and best safety features.

ANTI CYCLE CAMPAIGN
I have been informed by Cr Kirsten Lesina, Chair of the Cairns Pedestrian and Cycle Strategy Focus Group, Cairns Regional Council, that councillors have been inundated with anti cycleway emails.
Cr Lesina has requested me to contact cyclists asking you to email her with your support for the Aeroglen to CBD cycleway and any comments you wish to make about the bike route.
Information: http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/ - go to the bottom of the home page "Get involved with council" and click on "CBD to Aeroglen cycleway".

Help Us Help Ourselves
What a plan that Mayor Val Schier, Bill Calderwood, Russell Beer and Jeremy Blockey have come up with in solving the down-turn of Cairns, 4 months plus as a think-tank only to come up with a three point plan ‘the relief, recovery and reform plan’ in The Weekend Post last Saturday 24 October 2009.
What’s already funded locally in relation to this plan by the State and Federal government? How viable is this in benefiting the community when we already have investments in performing arts centres within and around Cairns.

The End Of The Line
Cairns and Far North Environment Centre & End Credits Film Club are proud to present a Special Screening at 7pm on Friday November 6 at the Cairns Civic Theatre of a documentary that is sounding alarm bells for the health of our marine ecosystems.
THE END OF THE LINE
Imagine a world without fish
The world¹s first major documentary about the devastating effect of overfishing premiered at 2009 Sundance Film Festival. (Watch the trailer below)

Scaling Justice to Personal Preference
Police are lower than AFP Agents but higher than Citizens they refer to as underlings and will determine their service according to a second class citizen; helping accordingly to their own independent preference without looking at facts or evidence of technology a majority of the time.
On completion of training to become a police officer, it’s required that you must work in a state other than their own. Police making these personal determinations of their own independent thought have basic education schooling in gaining entry commonly around 18 years of age.

Human Rights, Choosing What’s Right
Human rights the right to our freedom of choice, the right of every living person, a right to not be forced to live the same way as those around us but as we choose.
This is a self dignity we all expect not to be subjected to torment or frowned apone by others according to our responsible choices, choices of mutual agreement or independence.

#3 Mirage of Reality
Throughout history we as a people work together in gaining a social and respectful opportunity of equal worth, an understanding towards each other. Our liberty and laws we uphold is our structured base of our social order in the ways of day to day country and land, diplomacy and panels of senate adjudicators for more intellectual judgment and fair outcome.
This in past-time was constructed and implemented throughout the Roman Empire years before the ‘Son of God’ in the pursuit for fairness and opportunity, thence passed on throughout the civilized world.

#2 Modern Connections, Thesis of Origin
In this article I am coving the general makeup of modern man and our surroundings, our interactions with life and construction from the beginning to death.
Our human genetic makeup is a comprise collection of autopoietic, water, lipid-protein bound, carbon metabolic, nucleic acid replicated and protein system. All life on Earth is based on the chemistry of carbon compounds.

#1 The Path We Lead
The path we lead is due to our existence comprised from the birth of our earth and the universe alike in the form of an ultimate reality, this reality is substance.
As we know our planet in the universe was created around 4 and a half billion years ago through the ways of compression of dark matter, built-up of gases igniting causing a chain reaction through-out.
The religious reference to this is “the universe was formed at God's command, so that what was seen was not made out of what was visible” to satisfy those requiring book terminologies.

Consequences’ of New Life
Over the years we’ve become a custom to the impression of the fact that the attachment of a mother and her child takes preference, the conception that a child will not have the equal opportunities in life growing up with their birth father without the moulding of a mother’s love.
With the constant reminder that having sex with another could mean more than just an experience, that the possibility of conceiving a child within a relationship or non is always on the cards.

ADF Recruitment is it Balanced
Applicants applying for positions to serve for their country; do they want you to serve? or do they want the best guessers of the day?, are they looking for citizens with leadership qualities? or socially inadequate types for tuning into GI Joes.
As a country striving for equal opportunities and correctness we sure do allot of incorrect processing when it comes to the paperwork analyses and requirements.

Workshops to frame new Planning Scheme to begin
Community workshops will soon be held across the region as the first step in developing a new planning scheme to cover the Tablelands Regional Council area.
The workshops will enable members of the community to contribute their thoughts, ideas, and concerns for the future management of our towns and regional landscape.

Paul Bakker, Artist - an introduction
Allow me to introduce myself: I am Paul Bakker and have been a painter/artist all my life.
I was born, far too long ago, in Sydney, but was on a ship to Europe when I was just one year old. My dad was an officer in the Royal Dutch Indonesian Army. He was still 'mopping up' in Dutch New Guinea when the Dutch Government decided that all army wives and kids had to go to Holland.
My poor mother, who only spoke English, with an Aussie accent, arrived with three kids in a war ravaged Holland. When she descended the gangplank amongst bomb damaged buildings, she asked a nearby sailor, in English, where Rotterdam was. He answered in Dutch; "Mevrouw, dit IS Rotterdam. Vraag het maar aan de Duitsers." (Madam, this IS Rotterdam, just ask the Germans).

Re: What got you interested in running a site?
What got you interested in running a site?
Well, as the domain name altnews.com.au suggests, back in 1996, I fully intended to build an 'Alternative' news site publishing the important stuff that should have made it to the mainstream media. The web site slogan at the time was: "Publishing collective for the bio-economic region around Cairns, tropical north Queensland, Australia". This was supposed to be a part-time after hours interest adjunct to my fledgling web hosting business.
