Update No 10 30/07/2008 SHUTDOWN OVER
NATIONAL ROAD TRANSPORT FORUM
TRANSPORT INDUSTRY SHUTDOWN
Transport operators can now choose to work
After a crisis meeting today Chief Organiser of the nationwide transport
shutdown and NRTF spokesperson, Mr Mick Pattel, has urged all supporters
of the shutdown to consider returning to work
"Round one is over and the arrogant Bligh government has sent their
transport minister on holidays, making it impossible for our issues to
be heard," a frustrated Mr Pattel said this afternoon.
"The appropriate Ministers in Qld and NSW
have gone into hiding and quite frankly, we find that arrogant.
Mr Pattel made it quite clear that the frustrations for the transport
industry were far from over and that the industry would now regroup in a
formal entity and make clear plans for future attempts to highlight
their concerns to the public and government.
"We have learnt so much from this exercise and this is only the start,"
Mr Pattel said.
"The LNP is supportive of Queensland truck drivers," he said.
LNP representatives Tim Nicholls and Ian Rickuss met with sectional
industry representative Mick Pattel today to discuss issues related with
log book demerit points.
"I have strong sympathy for truck drivers doing it tough in Queensland,
and the LNP will continue to support reform that contributes to the
safety of all road users," Mr Nicholls said.
Mr Pattel said that truckies across the country should go back to work.
He concluded by saying that one of the biggest thing in this process was that a majority of the transport industry does not have a voice.
Ends.

Thanks For Trying Mick
The subject line says it all.Mick, you have done more for us than the union has for all these years.Your right, it cannot be over, if it is the whole country is stuffed.Lessons need to be learnt,We need to form a driver and owner drivers union/association.Get everyone signed up then try again as one voice. The big company drivers have to join in as well otherwise we will get nowhere.
To everyone that stopped,
Hold your heads up at least we tried and have princples. When a few points are lost by people I think they will soon come around.
Brave Mick for trying
You are up against very powerful interests when you try to speak up for the little bloke.
US corporations did 9/11 and it has all rolled on from there - governments ignoring the people in favour of corporations , controlled mainstream media, overbearing police and a whole host of things that have been brought in because the MEDIA does not tell the truth.
Please keep trying to push the truth though because we will win.
good onya mick we"ll get em
good onya mick we"ll get em next time.they cant stay on holidays forever. thanks heaps
Hold head high
Regardless we're staying parked up for the rest of the week, our choice. Congrats to NRTF on their effort to bring the issues out into the public arena, sad to see this campaign hijacked by others.
By hell if I hear one whinge about rates, fines & demerit points come October they'll have to winch me out of their throat by the ankels!!
yep thankyou Mick and
yep thankyou Mick and everyone else that supported this shutdown.
keep it safe
amy
thanks for the time and
thanks for the time and effort mick. as already stated the relevent ministers can,t hide on holidays forever. whether they like it or not,the same problems will still be waitng for them when they come back.as for the twu and ata pretty poor effort for organisations spruking to be the peak industy bodies.bring on round 2.
Mick Pattel
I wish to say a big THANK YOU to you Mick for pulling together our industry in this shutdown, you have succeeded in 3 months what others have tried to do for years. Thank you also to the NSW and Vic Delegates for their part in this I know they worked very hard as well. Thanks also to Leo Decru and 2DU for their great support and coverage.
Lets all remember that this shutdown was very successful by the sheer numbers of trucks that were off the road on Monday, it's just a pity they all couldn't have stuck it out a bit longer. To those of you that were committed to the shutdown thanks to you also.
Mick has spent a lot of his own time and money (along with some donations) on this shutdown and it would be great if we could donate money to him to cover his expenses especially while he has been in Brisbane this week and of course his dreaded phone bill. Lets thank him by donating.
Call Mick for his bank details. THANKS AGAIN MICK!! Your'e the best.
Thanks Mick
We would like to join in the thanks to Mick and the other members of this industry that took the time and energy to support the Shutdouwn that should be so close to our hearts or at least our paypackets. I wish all the best to those who did not or could not support the job and industry that keeps you fed. I hope that you will either grow some BALLS or at least find some. I do understand that some feel that they could not stop if only for a few days but that just means that you are already doing something wrong. I hope that it does not take you to loose your licence to wake up and take notice of what we tried to do for all of us. But once again THANK YOU MICK.
Good on you Mick you done
Good on you Mick you done what the mouth pieces have been talking about in road houses etc for fifteen years but when it come to putting their balls on the table they just didnt have any i pity them. We stopped and i no of a few more but i also no a lot that didnt so i hope they dont windge when things are not the way they want it. Short term pain for a long term gain.
Shutdown Over
Good on you to Mick and his team. We support you all the way. My husband and his friends (drivers and owner/operators) have all stopped work and are still stopped but I guess they will now go back to work after your latest update. We would love to help you and the cause in anyway we can. If there need to be letters and petitions done please contact us on mystie.mcadam@bigpond.com to organise any of this. We are strong beleivers in what you are helping to fight for and change. We were appalled at the amount of trucks and drivers that were still on the road. I believe there needed to be more media attention so that drivers and the general public know what drivers and owner/operators are stopping for. It should have been one-in-all-in we say. All trucks need fuel, all drivers fill out log books and all trucks need registrations. None of us can afford to be without an income but if that is what is needed to bring the message home then it should be wholeheartedly supported. Once again, great efforts to you and the team and we would love to help with the cause in anyway we can. GREAT EFFORTS!
Addendum to stay staunch
what a bunch of limp dicks
you all talk shit as usual. this is precisly why the government won't talk or listen to your demands. this is also why the new fines in victoria are already through check the link below
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/7F86BCC2-13C6-41B5-ACE2-4C2E...
Look at the prices for the fines all you "I cant afford to strike" ONCE UPON A TIME TRUCK DRIVERS HAD BALLS,
ALL THE TUFF CUNTS MOUTHIN OFF ABOUT WHAT YOUR GUNNA DO, WELL FROM WHAT I CAN SEE YOUR All gunna fold roll over and continue to take it up the arse from the big boys & government.
maybe some one that has some influence on any of the so called industry associations out there might try servin the piss ant politicians with a WRIT OF MANDAMAR demanding that until such time as appropriate rest areas are provided then there should be a moratourium on fines, maybe also send a writ to the various state work cover offices demand that they prosicute to the full extent the same said RTA's or VIC roads ect for there part in contributing to these same accidents
Look up the meaning of a WRIT OF MANDAMAR, only heard about it the other day , nice ancient rule to use against the bastards.
still stayin staunch.
JASON
IT IS NOT THAT EASY
It is going to take a while to regroup and get enough unity and support to stand up to big government, big unions and the controlled media all working together to keep things as they are and ignore what people in the industry want.
dont break the rules dont pay
dont break the rules dont pay the fines its that simple
Thanks Mick
Thanks does not seem enough Mick to you or those who gladly gave time to assist you. Now to the future. Let us know what you are planning and we will be there to help all we can..
Regards
Russ

NEW REPORT HIGHLIGHTS ROAD CRASH INJURY RATES
Truck drivers and offsiders had a much lower rate of serious road crash injuries than motorists
in 2005-06, according to a new report.
The report was released by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, and is based on the
number of traffic accident patients admitted to hospital. The report does not cover patients who
died as a result of their injuries.
According to the report, 408 heavy transport vehicle occupants were seriously injured in road
traffic crashes in 2005-06. 385 of the people injured were men.
In contrast, 9,986 car drivers and 5,113 car passengers were seriously injured in road traffic
crashes the year.
For heavy transport vehicles, there were three serious injuries per 100 million kilometres
travelled, compared to 10 serious injuries for car occupants and 397 serious injuries for
motorcyclists. Pick up trucks and vans recorded the lowest serious injury rate, at one per 100
million kilometres.
Of the 408 heavy transport vehicle injuries, 206 were caused by accidents that did not involve
collisions, such as a truck overturning. 53 were caused by collisions with cars, pick up trucks or
vans, 63 were caused by a collision with a heavy transport vehicle or bus, and 46 involved
collisions with stationary objects. The rest of the accidents were unspecified.
The report, Serious Injury Due to Land Transport Accidents, Australia, 2005-06, can be
