Support The Aeroglen To CBD Cycleway

Send to friendThis cycleway according to the Cairns Post has come under threat from certain councillors and residents. It seems that certain businesses are also up in arms about car parking. Some concern is felt about muddies playground.
After much consideration by council staff and councillors, this plan has evolved as being the best option with least disruptions, with least road crossings and best safety features.
I support this cycleway and ask you to do so as well. Please write to the Cairns Post supporting this great council and Queensland Transport initiative. This is the first cycleway project funded in Queensland outside of the SEQ. Let's not blow it!

Bicycle Queensland, with over 10,000 financial members, represents the one million Queenslanders who use a bicycle for recreation or transport on a regular or semi- regular basis (ABS).
Bicycle Queensland wholeheartedly supports this excellent project, and looks forward to being a partner in promoting it to the international, inter and intra-state visitors whom such a facility will attract, and whom BQ communicates through its standing as the state's peak body for cycling, and a founding partner in the Bicycle Coalition in Australia.
We have no doubt he tourist value alone of such quality cycling facilities will pay for it over time - but additionally the encouragement of community health, active transport and providing facilities for your community are beyond question - it is the responsibility of council to provide and we fully support this proposal.
Please take this letter of support to be on behalf of the many thousands of ordinary people who will cycle more often when world-class facilities like this are provided.
