Update No 3 20th July 2008

Hi Everyone,
The shutdown is still on, The Qld Transport Minister John Mickel and three members of his staff were gracious enough to give us an hour and a half of their time on Saturday morning , I invited Liz Schmidt as a part of the delegation and she is able to verify the outcome of the meeting, unfortunately we did not resolve the issues at hand, the biggest sticking point was the removal of demerit points from log book breaches, and on that point the talks broke down, I do believe that the Minister is now acutely aware what needs to happen to avert this shutdown, we are not scheduled to meet again at this point.
We still have not met with anyone in the Federal Government and expect that the standoff there may continue, which is unfortunate.
Tom Desmond joined us to meet at the TWU building with Hughie Williams and some of his people, again Hughie gave us about one and a half hours of his time, it was a friendly and constructive meeting that made them aware of the reasons we are taking this action, Hughie fell short of giving us full support however he didn’t condemn our efforts to head off these reforms, he said he would see how much support we received as a result of the shutdown before joining us.
I believe that the TWU are genuine in their concerns for where the industry is going and need some positive direction from the real people in the industry, it always seems that the minorities get the most attention and they do not represent or portray any of the true issues, and never offer realistic solutions.
I thank Liz and Tom for their support and their input and everyone driving this program, it was interesting to note that on the plane trip home from Brisbane the Hostess asked us about our trip, it surprised me when we mentioned that we met with the transport minister about the shutdown she was aware of what was going on which shows how much interest there is in what we are doing, more importantly she fully supported what we were doing and wished us every success, I gave her a hand full of stickers to spread around, so if you see a Jetstar plane with a shutdown sticker on it you’ll know why.
Until next time

Re: Your meetings

Go Mick,
Keep up the great work. I whole heartedly support you and am trying to rally support around Dubbo, along with Peter Newton. I will contact Leo Fardell and offer any help I can to him.
I wish our associatations would realise they need to listen to their members and support their members, not go softly softly and give us nothing.
The fatigue regulations are our biggest problem and need to be all thrown out , ALL.
Also, I keephearing where companies charge fuel levies but dont pay their subbies their levy. Why is the ATA ignoring that? Cause they are in their pocket thats why. Mr St Clair needs to get off his political backside and listen to who he is suppossed to represent.
I have canvased someone within TOLLS car carrying trying to get their stand on this, he is very close, related.
Cheers Mick.

Associations

Thanks Dallas,
I'm with you, this shutdown is taking its toll on my business as well and it shouldn’t, not if Associations were doing their job, but it's the old story, give them an inch and they will take a mile, Associations are just another parasite that feeds off our industry, add that to Governments, Banks, Fuel Companies, and Bureaucrats and the list goes on.
We will all need to work together to clean up the State Associations and get rid of the National Associations, as all Government regulations and charges are State based why do we need National Associations, strong State Associations can deal with their own state problems.

Saving Australia

A million thanks Mick for organizing this, we will end up in an awful place if these shocking regulations are allowed to come in. I don't know who our politicians and industry leaders are working for but it isn't us that is for sure - it appears we are all supposed to bow down and be slaves to the corporation and bureaucracy.
85% of farmers wanted to keep the AWB single desk so what do they do they destroy it and the US Cargill Corporation even said on the ABC country hour program that it was very much in their interests - charming.
Also with council amalgamations there was an overwhelming NO vote so they went against that and did it anyway.
This article about Economic Hit Men makes one wonder if this is what is happening.
Economic Hit Men push global warming genocide plan
Economic hit man, Jeffrey Sachs arrived in Australia this week to join fellow cohorts pushing the global warming hysteria. This anti-carbon mafia intend to destroy our economy and enslave us in poverty and death; based on the scientific swindle that carbon dioxide is supposedly a pollutant responsible for a climate apocalypse.
Best-selling author, John Perkins gives an insight as to how economic hit men (EHM) operate in his book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man: “We EHMs are crafty... ...We appear humble, normal. We visit project sites and stroll through impoverished villages. We profess altruism, talk with local papers about the wonderful humanitarian things we are doing... ...We are on the record, in the open. Or so we portray ourselves and so are we accepted... ...if we fail, an even more sinister breed steps in, ones we EHMs refer to as the jackals... ...When they emerge, heads of state are overthrown or die in violent ‘accidents.’ And if by chance the jackals fail, as they failed in Afghanistan and Iraq, then the old models resurface. When the jackals fail, young Americans are sent in to kill and to die.”

Supporting Truckies

To Mick & all the other truckies out there trying to make ends meet. I fully support your actions. I own a small convenience & fuel store in Central Western Qld & although the strike will also hurt me financially, I understand that if reforms are not made to the trucking industry, I will not have a business in the future, because there won't be any trucks that will deliver out here & if they do the freight charges they will forced to charge would make my business unviable.

I have friends that are truckies & I know how hard they are doing it now, without the extra financial & bureucratic burden being forced upon them.

I will be putting a sign on the front of my shop supporting the strike & informing any truckies not supporting the strike action, that they will not be served.
