Update No 4 21th July 2008

Hi all
We are rapidly approaching the shutdown and still the support is growing I have engaged the services of a media adviser Clare Mildren, Clare will push our message to the general public, the last few days should see greater exposure for the shutdown

I am hearing that there is some dissent amongst our medium sized Toll sub-contractors on this shutdown, that is unfortunate as their support would have made the duration of the shutdown a lot shorter, it is important that we don’t take it out on their drivers, I will not support any retaliation against these companies or their drivers and ask that the position that they have taken is respected.

I believe that it is sad that the owners of these companies are running that close to the wind that they cannot support their industry or their drivers, I think the drivers have more substance and principle than their bosses, and many are resigning, I just hope that when this is all over the drivers will remember who supported them and who didn’t, a big company with no drivers isn’t worth much, is it?.
On the political front we are devoid of any support from both side of politics, the only exceptions being Bob Katter (Kennedy), Vaughan Johnson(Gregory) and Shane Knuth (Charters Towers), and although we have invited politicians from both side of politics, they have all come out against the shutdown, the so-called Rural party, the Nationals, are as weak as water, they’re showing that they still lack leadership and direction, and the transport industry will remember them at the ballot box in the future.

I believe that we have about 70% support from around the country, that will be enough to impact on the Governments both State and Federal, and as things stand at the moment the shutdown is inevitable, so gear up for a family break at home, and remember to stock up.

You've got POWER truckies - USE IT

Please please please stay united against this b awful government regulation rot.
We farmers can't make the city take notice - they just keep passing on the costs. If we don't stand against this ruthless government garbage the next thing will be the carbon tax to finish us off.

Truck Drivers Protest

I sincerely hope that all those who participate in the go slow Shutdown of the 27 / 28th will be recognised and acknowledged for the positive contribution that they have made in the past and continue to make in the future.

Truck drivers whether you like it or not, are the back bone of Australia, they cart what Australia imports and exports, and yet they are all treated like second class citizens, by the Politicians, the supermarkets and the large trucking companies like Toll and Linfox.

The stand, that we are taking, is about the cost of Fuel, Driver Safety, Payments to drivers and the comfort of drivers who are doing the long hours, This is especially in regards to the Rest Areas around the country.

The Politicians, will not acknowledge that the Fuel Tax is a tax on a tax, and there is no respite for the small to medium owner operators who will be hard hit financially by the rising costs.

The Police, through the politicians, continue to hound the drivers expecting them to adhered to sets of legistlations that are not drawn up by the industry and therefore bear little or no resemblance to what we really need.

Where are the comfort and rest areas which we need, to ensure that the drivers get quality sleep and rest ?

Where is the legislation that says the drivers should get a minimum payment for the services they have given and also the promised payments they are owed ?

When the trucking industry is run, organised, and legislated by the people that work in the industry then we shall final see some positive changes.

I for one, am pround to say that I am a truckie and working for the betterment of Australia,
