Update No 9 29/07/2008
Hi Everyone
The shutdown is in a holding pattern as we we regroup, the next plan will be to pull a media stunt that will put this on the front page of all media, that may bring out the T.V. interviews we did on Monday.
Clare and I will be meeting Tim Nicoll and Vaughan Johnson Wednesday I also had a meeting with Bob Katter today, he was lobbying the TWU for their support, I will be talking to Mark Crossdale from the TWU tomorrow.
A decision to return to work could happen as soon as Friday, and we may resume off the back of a new programme if further consultation with Government fails, it may be that we will need to approach the demerit points on logbook after they are introduced, that way the other states will know why Queensland hates this regulation.
The drivers and Owner drivers are the real people worth fighting for in this process, the medium to large fleets are too open to industrial pressure from the multi-national freight forwarders.
If all the sub-contractors went out on shutdown together they would have been able to return with more unity to gain better rates and support the industry against these reforms, but fear is the terrible tool used by unscrupulous Prime contractors to control and keep the industry in poverty.
We will still keep the fight going, we need to stay the course
Regards
Mick Pattel
P.S. The sheer volume of phone calls to my mobile do not enable me to handle all incoming calls, and this month returning calls to voice mail messages has cost me $4500 dollars in one month, I need you to contact me via email if it is at all possible.
I now have a mobile card, and I can answer emails anywhere there is a mobile service.
To get uniform support was always going to be very difficult because the big corporates divide and conquer. The terrible fear tool is used by unscrupulous Prime contractors to control and keep the industry in poverty.
The government will be determined to keep its ruthless laws because if they give into the transport industry they would be scared to death that other industries would demand relief from regulations.
I was very happy this morning that the world trade (WTO) talks collapsed overnight in Geneva. The might of the corporations has greatly lessened with this collapse.
According to the ABC news , Simon Crean ( who has been useless for small farmers with his atupid level playing field etc.) said he is very dissappointed that countries could not reach a compromise with the US. China , India and smaller countries ganged up against big bully US to stop the low price dumping of product into their countries by the US.
Simon Crean has been working with US corporations against we small farmers in Australia.
Apparently the talks have never been more bitter - I don't blame them I'm bitter too about stupid ruthless criminal people in our governments and farming associations who want to sell us out to big corporations all the time.
Long may that sort of globalism keep dying!
Von Curtis, you sure have hit the nail fair on the head.
What we need is to take the very oppisite tack to the divide and rule tactics being used against the Austalian people generally and against todays generation of truckies right now. What we need is that drivers, whether they are subbies and/or owner drivers, company employed drivers, and no matter what the association or union or other group they belong to, all must get together and take a stand AS ONE. Unity is the key to defeating the divide and rule tactics being used against you. More public support is needed, support from other workers in other industries is needed. Work hard of building this unity and your power will be boosted tremendously.
Keep at it, keep targeting the regulators for their idiocy and shit-brained policies re log books and so on, and also the oil companies for their rip-offs on fuel pricing.
I am supporting the electrical workers fight going on at the moment with a few dollars out of my age pension each fortnight, and believe we all ought to support each other in industrial fights (like theirs and yours) across all industries regardless.
As to talk of industrial terrorists.... What bullshit!! The bloody terrorists are the regulators and the bosses who put unreasonable demands on people just trying to earn a decent living as in your trucking case, and workers who feel they have a right to come home after work each night and not have to put up with safety measures being cut back as is part of the electrical workers argument.
Let the bloody government wallahs, the oil company executives and the electricity bosses all get off their shiny arses and get out there and do a real days work with the workers. They'd soon change their smart-arsed tune then, they'd scream at having to live as most of you truckies do; they'd shit themselves.
Keep going. There is no guarantee you will win, but I believe it is very winnable. On the other hand, From years of experience I guarantee this; IF YOU DON'T FIGHT ..... YOU LOSE !
'Unity is the key to defeating the divide and rule tactics being used against you. More public support is needed, support from other workers in other industries is needed.'
Unity is very hard to get as governments and media love to divide communities and groups especially ones that might threaten them.
'we all ought to support each other in industrial fights (like theirs and yours) across all industries regardless.
More public support is needed, support from other workers in other industries is needed.'
The public is too brainwashed , lazy or dumbed-down by the mainstream media to think much or do anything about the system. The September 11, 2001 fear industry keeps them under control.
9/11 was an inside job and the stupid 'war on terror' are BIG LIES pushed by the corporate controlled
mainstream media and all the lies from that flow on to us living under the rule of corporate power instead of a democracy.
I try to find out some truth about what is going on at
http://www.911oz.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=12 if you are interested.
Keep fighting for the truth.
